I believe that the USB version will not work with Linux because Wine only supports USB devices that are supported by the Linux kernel. IMPORTANT: This is the serial port version (not USB). VAG-COM Cable = HEX-COM+CAN cable from Ross-Tech. I have installed the recently released version 607.0 of VAG-COM under Ubuntu Linux. It was probably based on version 504 of VAG-COM but provided me with hope that I could get it to work. This HOW-TO () from 2005 requires mozactivex and a couple of DLLs. VAG-COM has undergone many updates since then. This HOW-TO () from 2001 is too old so I don’t know if it still works. This post () states VAG-COM works under SUSE Linux but provides no description as to how to install it. However, others (with more experience than I) have used wine to get it working under Linux in the past. Ross-Tech explicitly state that it is only supported running under Windows. I just thought that I would mention it since I know Ross-Tech is following this thread.VAG-COM (is an on-board diagnostic (OBD) scanner for Volkswagen Audi Group vehicles.

This issue might cause more problems for new users. This is a minor issue, and since it has happened to me before, it didn't really cause me a problem. In other words, it would have been nice if it actually told me that I needed to update the cable's firmware and told me to test the cable again. My comment is: When I first tried to do the autoscan, it would have been nice if the error message was more useful.

I tested the interface again and it said I needed to update the cable firmware and everything worked correctly. When I first plugged into a car and tried to do an autoscan, I got an error message about not being able to connect (I don't remember the exact message). I upgraded to 11.11.4 when not connected to my car, tested the interface, and saved the configuration (no problem here). Click to expand. The update worked flawlessly on my cable, just as Jef described.
